What Do These Events or Waveforms Mean?Types of Trigger Events for the TEALwatch® Power Monitor Waveforms: NOTE: TEALwatch® monitors the power in 2 distinct ways, both RMS events (waveform calculations based on longer term effects, typically over several cycles) and Subcycle (Transient) Events (sampled at 128 samples per cycle). The 6 different types of trigger "events" that the TEALwatch® monitors continuously include: 1.
Voltage Sag event – This event trigger occurs when
the AC voltage RMS value drops to a lower than expected value. The typical
range for the Voltage Sag trigger is -10% from nominal. 2. Voltage Swell event (also known as Voltage Surge) – This event trigger occurs when the AC voltage RMS value rises to a higher than expected value. The typical range for the Voltage Swell trigger is +10% from nominal. 3.
Phase Balance event – This event trigger occurs when
the nominal balance between the 3 AC phases becomes unbalanced. The typical
range for the Phase Balance trigger is 7 degrees from nominal, typically 120
degrees for a normal 3-phase system. 4. Frequency Deviation event – This event trigger occurs when the AC mains frequency deviates significantly from the nominal setting. The typical range for the Frequency Deviation trigger is +/-1.5Hz from nominal, either 50Hz or 60Hz. 5. Subcycle (Transient) event - This event trigger occurs when a transient event occurs that causes a larger than expected excursion from the nominal AC waveform. The Sub-Cycle Event Trigger is a feature unique to the TEALwatch® power monitor. The Sub-Cycle Event Trigger (SCET) is a very flexible set of algorithms that effectively track the AC waveform and trigger an event when there is an unexpected sub-cycle excursion from the nominal AC voltage waveform. Refer to the Users Manual, section 3.6, for more details. 6. Power Loss event – This event trigger occurs when the TEALwatch® loses power. This helps the user diagnose real system power outage issues and to differentiate when the user has simply turned OFF the main power.
How Do I Adjust The Trigger Thresholds? To adjust the set-points of the event triggers, please refer to the Users Manual, section 3.6.
