TEALwatch® Power Monitor Waveform Viewer

What is the TEALwatch® Viewer?

The TEALwatch® Viewer is a macro-based Excel spreadsheet designed to simplify the importing and graphical viewing of TEALwatch® data files. After saving a data file or files from a TEALwatch® power monitor to your local hard-drive or network, the TEALwatch® Viewer can be used to open, format, and graphically represent the waveform data contained in the downloaded TEALwatch® files. Below are several example waveforms shown within the TEALwatch® Viewer spreadsheet.

Figure 1 - TEALwatch® Viewer - Screenshot of Viewer showing a SUBCYCLE event that occured at 8:33AM on 5-23-05. This event was a high-frequency transient, typical of an electrical noise spike caused by nearby high-power equipment turning ON or OFF.

Figure 2 - TEALwatch® Viewer - Screenshot of Viewer showing a SUBCYCLE event that occured at 10:04AM on 5-20-05. This event was an intermediate-frequency transient, typical of a facility Power Factor Correction (PFC) capacitor bank being switched into to out of the main power circuit.

Figure 3 - TEALwatch® Viewer - Screenshot of Viewer showing TREND data from 5-18-05 to 5-22-05. This trend data shows the 3 phase voltages hovering near 277VAC, very close to optimum, with excursions of a few volts RMS over 4 days.

Figure 4 - TEALwatch® Viewer - Screenshot of Viewer showing RMS VOLTAGE BALANCE data from 5-18-05 to 5-26-05. This data shows the 3 phase voltages very closely balanced, within about 1%, over a 1 week period.

The TEALwatch® Viewer is provided free of charge to any of our customers. To download the Viewer spreadsheet, click here.

How Do I Use the Viewer?

To use the Viewer, follow these simple steps:

1. Save the datafiles from the TEALwatch® Power Monitor that you are interested in. From the STATUS page within the TEALwatch® power monitor web site interface, click on either "Download All Files", "Download Trend Data" at the bottom of the status page, or select an individual event by clicking the full "Download" button of an individual event. Save these files to a known folder or location on your local drive or network (and remember where you save them). A file name is generated automatically, but you can modify the filename to help identify it. Please note that the filename cannot contain any special characters or spaces. TEAL recommends that you not modify the filename, but rather save the data files into an appropriatedly named folder that will help you identify the files origination at a later date. These files can take a few minutes to download.

2. Open the TEALwatch® All Data Viewer file. When the Viewer is opening, you must select "ENABLE MACROS" to allow the Viewer to use it's built-in macro programming to automatically format data files. Most anti-virus software disables the Excel Macro function, but it must be enabled to use the Viewer. You may need to change your security settings under the TOOLS menu of Excel, select MACROS, and set your security setting to the mid-level and ENABLE MACROS.

TO VIEW EVENTS...

3. With the Viewer open, select the Excel tab at the bottom of the page for EVENT CHART.

4. Click on the IMPORT button in the center at the bottom of the Viewer page to import either an individual event or the "AllEvent.dat" file (from where you saved the file as described above). You can select between the different waveforms with the selection buttons at the bottom of the page.

5. Each waveform is scaled individually.

TO VIEW TRENDS...

6. Select the Excel tab at the bottom of the page for TREND CHART.

7. Click on the IMPORT button in the center at the bottom of the Viewer page to import the "Trend.dat" file (from where you saved the file as described above). You can adjust the resolution for both amplitude and time duration of the trend data with the selection buttons at the bottom of the page.
